& usage
Arrow Precision have now completed
their purchase and relocation of DKE Crankshafts. Over a period
of three months we have moved the DKE machine shop into new premises,
invested in new machinery and reorganized the workflow to maximize
efficiency and accuracy.
An excellent and experienced workforce have joined us, including
Simon Osman, a former director at DKE, as well as a core of highly
skilled engineers. Simon will be overseeing production of Arrow
crankshafts here in the heart of the UK and will head the team responsible
for technical innovation and product development.
DKE led the field in the manufacture of high performance crankshafts
for nearly twenty years, supplying many of the world’s top
motor manufacturers, tuners and engine builders, a mantle Arrow
are more than happy to assume, our chief aim being to progress our
relationships with these companies and individuals and also to develop
relationships with new customers who can benefit from the crossover
between cranks and Arrows existing connecting rod and race component
business.
Recent successes include: The street-legal saloon world speed record
with the Brabus E V12. The Nürburgring lap record with the
Radical SR3 Turbo. First place in the LM2 Class and second place
in LM1, with the Judd-powered cars in this year’s Le Mans
24 Hours. They all relied on our crankshafts to help them achieve
their outstanding performance.
Arrow Precision will continue the traditions of craftsmanship and
technical excellence inherited from DKE but will also bring consistency
and efficiency through new working practices and technological advances
in design and manufacture. We aim to manufacture the best that technology
can give us, but always with the hindsight of experience.
From custom to production, from vintage to LeMans, you need Arrow
at the heart of your engine.
material Arrow spec Corus 722M24.
Cleanliness is a major advantage, oxides are reduced by best steel
making practice and controlling sulphur reduces sulphides. The resulting
increased cleanliness / reduced impurities give a major improvement
in transverse properties e.g. strength and ductility making the
crank less likely to fracture. Improving the mechanical properties
raises the resistance to shock and offers a better diffusion of
nitriding resulting in increased endurance.
oil feed
The supply to the big end is optimized to maintain maximum oil film
thickness and strength.
Low pressure from the main journals gives more efficient supply
at higher RPM, it also enables the crankshaft to run at lower oil
pressure reliably.
attention to detail
The fillet radii is critical. Radii must be full and of correct
form in both rough and finished state, to ensure the nitrided layer
is of uniform thickness around entire surface.
crack detection
100% inspection.
balanced
Between 2 and 15 grams (depending on number of cylinders).
inspection
100% critical detail check.
